Less is more… actionable, digestible, and interesting.

How a new newsroom mentality, design refresh, and content strategy overhaul changed hearts and minds through the Google for Developers newsletter.

What I did

Evolving the Google for Developers newsletter

  • Role: Writer, editor, content strategist

  • Company: Google for Developers

  • Year: 2020-2023

From 2020 to the end of 2023, I was the author and editor of the Google for Developers newsletter.

In the beginning the inherited strategy was to allow products and sub brands to come to us and request a feature. From there I would synthesize all of the news and hen try to give a fair and balanced content strategy that helped tell a story about product, initiatives, and Google’s support for developers, race, and technology for good. The format was a recap of all of the news across various brands, and the reason to believe was that this was the go-to resource for all developer information.

As part of a brand refresh, we were able to turn that process around and adopt a news room mentality. One that was top down and narrative-driven, and more editorialized.

In addition to the change in strategy, there was finally time for a design refresh for the newsletter. Here I played a key role as an acting content designer— I was instrumental in literally shaping the template through content.
