Using Google’s flagship event to establish it as a though leader in generative AI
What I did
Project
Role: Contributing writer, editor
Company: Google
Year: 2023
Problem
Google needed to launch its AI narrative in addition to ensuring its developer keynote laddered back to the messaging in a recent rebrand focused on developer solutions.
Whereas in years past the script and narrative were developed based on product features (bottom up), in 2023 the. narrative was top down.
Solution
The developer narrative was known across teams, and we asked product and marketing script leads to share updates that laddered back to it.
Each team provided their product features and new launch announcements and offered a draft of their keynote.
Next, I ghostwrote the opening and closing statements by Jeanine, weaving together the most compelling announcements that laddered back to the narrative.
Then, I partnered with Jeanine’s Chief of Staff to continue refining.
Impact
Because the output was clear from the beginning, ideation took less time than in previous years.
Moments after the Keynote, GOOG stock surged 3%.
Caused a huge spike in the Google Search console for the term “Generative AI”
Google is now a leader in generative AI, and Google I/O 2023 is where it started. I’m one of the people behind it.
